A visit to Harbin is incomplete without a visit to the Siberian Tiger Park

"It was set up to study, breed, release and ultimately save the Manchurian (or Siberian) tiger from extinction. The Manchurian tiger is one of the rarest of all tigers. Estimates put the no of remaining Manchurian tigers somewhere between 360 and 400, with only 30 to 35 of those roaming freely in China.

In response to the tigers' plight as an endangered species, the Chinese government set up this Park. Conservationists stress the need for minimal human contact. Each day, this park sees busloads of tourists (I was one of them) snapping photos of the big cats munching on cows and chickens. The park is more likely to produce tigers with a taste for livestock who will associate people with feeding time." (Lonely Planet)
